Global Law Firm Allen & Overy Picks Eigen For AI Doc Review

Global law firm Allen & Overy (A&O) has signed an agreement for the use of Eigen Technologies’ NLP capabilities, in what is a major client win for the AI company.

A&O has been exploring the use of AI tools, and using them on live client matters, for some time. For example, it is already known to use Kira Systems for doc review.

However, it has now chosen to also work with UK-based Eigen, an AI company that works across several sectors including law, banking & finance, and insurance.

A&O is remaining tight-lipped about how they will initially be using the technology other than to say ‘Eigen’s NLP technology will be used for contract review and analysis following a successful pilot’.

Adam Eastell, Chief Legal & Strategy Officer of Eigen Technologies, commented: ‘We recently completed an in-depth pilot with A&O and are proud to have one of the world’s leading law firms using our NLP technology. A&O is well known for its innovative thinking in the application of legal technology and their team has a wealth of knowledge in this area.’

‘We are looking forward to working with A&O to explore how our technology can be applied across a range of practice areas,’ he added.

Eigen is on something of an expansion drive at present. It has moved into new, larger offices in the City of London, gained NewLaw pioneer LOD as a client, and last year received $17.5m in funding from Goldman Sachs Principal Strategic Investments and Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, Temasek.
