Ireland's McCann FitzGerald Latest Law Firm to Adopt AI, Chooses Kira Systems

Irish law firm McCann FitzGerald  has chosen Kira Systems to provide legal AI software for due diligence and document review work, making it one of the few European* law firms to embrace the technology so far. The decision follows a trial period.

The firm said Kira’s cognitive AI will be deployed in M&A, corporate finance and capital markets transactions, with the aim of gaining increased efficiency, greater accuracy and lower costs for clients.

McCann is the first Irish firm to adopt AI.

Barry Devereux, managing partner of McCann FitzGerald, said: ‘The market for legal services is evolving at a considerable pace [and] our investment in Kira Systems’ innovative software is the latest milestone in our digital strategy.’

The move comes at a time of wider investment in technology applications for the firm. Earlier this year, McCann FitzGerald announced the establishment of its Data Investigations Group, to manage high-volume document review and reporting.

The move by the Irish firm is also an important step for Canadian company Kira as it seeks to widen its market penetration. The deal follows on from the September announcement that UK-based global firm Freshfields would now be using Kira’s AI for transactional document review.
