Mishcon de Reya has today launched MDRxTECH, a new tech consultancy group that will provide clients with digital transformation advice and legal engineering services.
It marks a growing trend among law firms to launch (or acquire) their own consulting practices with a focus on helping clients grapple with legal tech projects. One could say that not to have one now marks you as out of step, at least among the top 30 UK law firms.
The move also follows the news of the recently re-launched MDR LAB.
The firm said: ‘Traditionally, the market for these services has been dominated by consulting firms. MDRxTECH’s offering is distinct, with the law firm at the heart of the service facilitating legally compliant architecture at every stage.’
The new business will provide three services:
1. Digital transformation. MDRxTECH solves its clients’ problems by applying the latest technologies and data science practices to help transform their organisations.
2. Systems integration. MDRxTECH works with various third-party technology providers, connects them with its clients, and works to integrate appropriate solutions.
3. Legal engineering. MDRxTECH’s best-in-class programmers and data scientists engineer sophisticated computer systems for the benefit of its clients.
MDRxTECH will draw on a wide range of practices from within the law firm, including the Data and Regulatory teams. MDRxTECH will also work closely with MDR Cyber and MDR LAB.
Tom Grogan, who is leading MDRxTECH, said: ‘It’s never been more important for organisations’ technology and innovation strategies and initiatives to comply with law, regulation and good ethical practices. We are working with some of the world’s most innovative and dynamic organisations, who are reassured that compliance and digital ethics underpin everything that we do.’
