This week’s latest AL TV Walk Through is with Lawtte, a developer of genAI-created virtual legal receptionists. These ‘agents’ can handle incoming calls for intake and engagingly help clients to set up meetings with the firm. It is uncannily convincing. But check out the video for yourself to see it in action.
Taking us through what Lawtte can do are co-founders Abem Menbere and Matthew Weidman. First we have three live phone calls to different virtual receptionists, which have been generated with genAI; then we get into the client intake data, which Lawtte collects for the law firm users and is very useful.
The receptionist AI agent can even be made to make calls on behalf of the law firm, e.g. to collect information from clients in a class action. It can also recognise the language spoken by a client and immediately change to match it. And you can even set the receptionist agent to have a different type of character depending on what best matches your firm or practice.
This site found the AI virtual receptionists to be very flexible, and as you’ll hear in the video, surprisingly natural in terms of its understanding and responses – albeit there were occasional pauses between some responses, though not all. For example, in one call, Mathew mentions he has been hit by another car (it’s an insurance claim type of call) and the receptionist sounds genuinely sympathetic and then goes on to be really helpful. This is one of those you have to see / listen to for yourself.
Here’s the video, with the demos, and then a detailed walk through of what the data backend of Lawtte can do for law firms. Please press PLAY to watch inside the page. (You can adjust playback to HD quality using the YouTube controls.)

Now, you’ll probably say to yourself: ‘But this is only for smaller law firms.’ Well, for small- to medium-size firms, yes, this would be a very useful tool. But, one can see larger firms adapting this for each partner, for example, allowing them to have a 24/7 legal secretary available to answer calls and collect information from clients when they can’t reach the phone. Naturally, the virtual receptionist would have to be adapted to meet the needs of a partner at a large law firm, but it would seem to be possible.
Overall, it’s still early days for genAI-created receptionists and legal secretaries, but it’s likely that they will become more advanced, integrate with more legal tech tools, and become part of daily life at law firms of all shapes and sizes.
