A&O Shearman Spin-Off aosphere Buys Investment Navigator – Updated

A&O Shearman’s former legal tech business, aosphere, which was sold to private equity investors in late 2023, has bought Investment Navigator. (Updated…whoops, Monday mornings, lack of sleep and coffee and all that…they only bought one company this September…the other one was last September….doh….)

aosphere has bought Investment Navigator AG, which is focused on cross-border compliance. It works closely with European banks in managing cross-border compliance and investment workflows.

It offers digitisation of cross-border banking manuals, and embeds compliance checks as well as selling restrictions into the investment management process, pre- and post-trade execution.

At the start of September last year they bought BRP, a Swiss group focused on compliance solutions for banking and financial regulation, and which covers 190 countries with manuals written in association with more than 300 law firms worldwide. More than 480 banks, asset and wealth managers rely on BRP services and products, they noted.

Clearly aosphere’s new PE backers are focused on growth and seem to be aiming at a roll-up strategy across the banking and finance compliance sector.

The company, started by Marc-Henri Chamay in 2002 while he was at Allen & Overy, as it was back then, was sold off just ahead of the merger with Shearman & Sterling. It now serves 1,300 institutions across the financial services industry.
