Legal tech platform, Litera, will now provide its new Lito agent along with its drafting product Draft Base, as well as contract analysis stalwart Kira. It will come with no extra charge, they added.
All well and good, but what does Lito do? The company explained that the Lito agent can perform single tasks and also chains of multiple tasks together ‘through a single interface’. It will also integrate with iManage and NetDocuments to tap law firm knowledge.
And you may then ask: but don’t lots of vendors now offer agentic tools like this? To which Litera has replied: ‘Unlike generic tools, Lito is not just another chatbot. It is powered by a fusion of advanced LLM technology and three decades of rules-based engines, optimizing a blend of frontier capabilities anchored in proven systems.’
Ultimately it’s tapping agentic skills and applying them where useful, e.g. drafting, and connecting to where helpful data may be held, e.g. iManage. In short, it’s giving Litera and its users a productivity boost across key legal tasks.
Litera CEO Avaneesh Marwaha, commented: ‘Lito supercharges the Microsoft tools lawyers already use every day, delivering enterprise-grade AI automation with zero friction and zero learning curve. While others talk about the future of legal AI, we’ve just delivered it at a significant scale, instantly democratizing advanced legal technology for everyone from Big Law to solo practitioners.’
Is this a big deal? Well, Litera certainly sees this as a big step forward for the platform. Stepping back to look at it more broadly, AL would say that the move is a smart one that makes a lot of sense as LLM-based technology advances at pace, especially given Litera’s focus on providing lawyers with the data they need at the point in their workflows where they need it most. Adding agentic skills just speeds up that data selection and delivery journey.
It also helps Litera to compete with a growing range of legal AI vendors that are also leveraging agentic skills to tap legal data and drive those outputs into workflows.
