Vesence Bags $9m Seed For Contract Review Agents

Vesence, backed by Emergence Capital and YC among others, has raised $9m in Seed funding to apply agents to contract review work, with their system operating as ‘a proactive AI reviewer, catching the smallest inconsistencies, formatting errors, and compliance issues’.

AL spoke to Stockholm-based co-founder Ludvig Swanström about the new company, which noted that it’s ‘finely tuned for risk reduction and precision rather than volume’ and that they started working on this ‘from inside one of Sweden’s top law firms after watching teams burn thousands of hours manually checking for small but costly mistakes’.

What does Vesence do?

We build AI agents in Microsoft Office for Law Firms. Vesence reviews your documents, emails, and projects directly inside Microsoft Office, before your client sees them.

How does it do it?

Two things make this unique. First, we’ve achieved novel technical breakthroughs in how agents can interact within Word and Outlook. We’ve shown Vesence to people at Microsoft and they couldn’t believe it was built inside the Microsoft Office environment. Second, we are building the world’s best review agents for specific tasks. The rigor we put into testing is extreme.

Why will this approach succeed?

We let the numbers and the product speak for themselves. Our first firm-wide rollout reached 90% weekly usage quickly, from senior partners to junior associates. New pilot users are consistently blown away from their first experience with Vesence, even when they already use MS Copilot or similar tools.

Why did you start the company?

It started when we showed the developer tool Cursor to a close friend who is a lawyer. We demonstrated that there’s more to AI than just chatbots, which led to a long discussion about having agents working alongside you and what that could unlock. It became clear to us that he wasn’t asking for “vibe drafting,” features but for agents that sanity-check his work, compare it with firm best practices, style guides, formatting requirements, and connected documents. We fell in love with the idea of building a Cursor for professional services that focuses on increasing the quality of work, not generate AI slop.

What is the money for?

To build the best product team in the world. We have already recruited an AI team from Google, BCG X, and MIT. There is so much noise in this industry. We want our product to feel different from the first moment it’s live on your computer.

Congrats to them. More here.
