Relativity has named Artificial Lawyer’s founder, Richard Tromans, as one of this year’s AI Visionaries – the first time a member of the media has been honoured this way by its annual recognition program for sustained legal AI achievements.
The pioneering legal tech company said that Tromans was chosen both to mark the ten-year anniversary since launching Artificial Lawyer in 2016, and for the ‘pivotal role he has played in advancing the legal tech industry through his early and dedicated coverage of AI’.
They added: ‘This is not a prize, the program is a recognition of sustained contribution to the evolution of legal AI.’
The company said that the ‘annual list celebrates leaders who are redefining the application and integration of artificial intelligence in the legal field, promoting both innovation and ethical practice’.
He is part of a group of 20 leaders selected for this year’s class of AI Visionaries, from global law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and academic institutions. Fellow 2026 Visionaries include experts from Google, Cleary Gottlieb and Clifford Chance.
Phil Saunders, CEO of Relativity, said: ‘AI has become a defining part of how legal tasks get done. The 2026 AI Visionaries are trusted stewards of that reality – setting direction, sharing responsibility and helping ensure legal AI solutions deliver meaningful and lasting value for the profession.’
See interview below with Relativity about the AI Visionaries program.
Many thanks to Relativity and its management team for this recognition, and those who nominated, at what is, as noted, the ten-year anniversary of Artificial Lawyer. And thank you also for all that you do too and have done over many years to drive change across the legal tech market.
AL Interview With Relativity

Thank you for this. Why have I been recognized as an AI Visionary?
Through the AI Visionaries program, Relativity amplifies leading voices shaping the future of artificial intelligence in the legal industry. This recognition reflects an individual’s ongoing work, influence, and leadership in advancing how AI is thoughtfully applied in legal practice. AI Visionaries are practitioners and innovators helping move the industry forward through real world adoption and collaboration.
Importantly, this is not a prize, the program is a recognition of sustained contribution to the evolution of legal AI.
How was the decision made?
AI Visionaries are identified through a structured nomination and review process overseen by an internal selection committee. Nominees are legal and technology leaders from global law firms, corporations, service providers, academia, and the public sector, representing a variety of practitioners across the legal AI community.
The process is intentionally selective and focused on impact, leadership, and contribution to the broader legal ecosystem, including areas such as innovation, education, and responsible AI adoption.
Is this the first time someone from the media has been recognized?
Yes, your recognition marks the first time a member of the media has been included in an AI Visionary class. Coinciding with the 10-year anniversary of Artificial Lawyer, this honour reflects the pivotal role you’ve played in advancing the legal tech industry through your early and dedicated coverage of AI.
Who else has been recognized this year?
Each year, a new class of AI Visionaries is announced and featured on the official AI Visionaries website.
Thank you again to Relativity. To be recognised among such great peers, and by such a pioneering company, which reinvented eDiscovery and has produced multiple innovations across the legal tech field – and continues to, is truly an honour. See you all in New York!
