Legal intelligence platform, Chamelio, and UpLevel Ops, the legal ops consulting group, are partnering to provide inhouse teams with a ‘forward deployed’ offering. (See AL Interview with Chamelio CEO, Alex Zilberman, below.)
Sounds interesting, but what does this entail? Here’s how they explain things.
Chamelio delivers an AI-native legal intelligence platform that spans the full contract lifecycle and extends beyond it, which ‘captures, structures, and activates institutional legal knowledge across intake, drafting, negotiation, execution, and post-signature management’.
Meanwhile, UpLevel Ops works with legal leadership to redesign operating models around these AI capabilities. This includes ‘workflow optimization, stakeholder alignment across Legal, Finance, IT, and Procurement, AI governance frameworks, and structured change management programs’.
Put the two together and you get something special, or at least that’s the plan. They described the end result as ‘re-architecting’ how legal operates across the contract lifecycle and beyond. However, Chamelio stressed that they are not a CLM, and underlined that for them it’s all about ‘the intelligence layer across workflows’. Plus, ‘forward deployed’ here refers to an increasingly popular tech world phrase meaning putting experts directly into a customer so they can address complex needs on-site, i.e. in this case UpLevel Ops.

Stephanie Corey, CEO and Founder of UpLevel Ops, commented: ‘We’ve seen too many legal tech initiatives stall not because the technology didn’t work, but because organizations weren’t structured to change around it.
‘Workflows stayed the same. Governance wasn’t built. Stakeholders weren’t aligned. The result is shelfware, not transformation. This collaboration pairs Chamelio’s AI intelligence platform with the operational design and change management expertise large enterprises need to make AI transformation durable.’
Gil Banyas, Co-Founder and COO of Chamelio, added: ‘In large enterprises, unlocking … value requires more than great technology. That’s why this collaboration with UpLevel Ops matters. Together, we’re ensuring enterprises don’t just pilot AI, they transform.’
In short, we have seen consultants and legal tech companies partner many times, and especially on the inhouse side of things because those teams don’t have much internal resource for handling large tech-based contract management projects. However, as noted above, Chamelio would argue that this is not ‘more of the same’, as the basis for their offering is not just about contract management, but understanding entire workflows and then gathering insights from those legal pathways, which can then be fed back into the legal team’s ongoing work.
AL Interview with Alex Zilberman, CEO and Co-founder of Chamelio
Why do this now?
We see an increase in demand for traditional CLM replacement, and Steph and her team is working closely with enterprise customers, such customers often require consultant support.
What challenges do clients face trying to adopt Chamelio?
The main challenge is deciding which workflows to revamp, while easy to setup on our platform, making the enterprise level decisions and communicating them across the org is where they require most of the help.
Could you do this yourselves? E.g. build your own consulting team?
We also have an internal team that leads such implementations directly, but in Fortune 500 companies using a forward deployed team is very useful and helps streamline the process.
And AL has to ask: what do you think of Anthropic’s Claude Cowork and plug-ins? Does this apply to what you do?
Anthropic’s Claude Cowork and its plug-in ecosystem are an important step forward. They continue to expand what general purpose AI can do inside organisations and help raise awareness of how transformative these tools can be.
That said, for most of our customers, especially enterprise legal teams, a general AI interface is not enough.
They need a fully secured, enterprise grade platform that can ingest, structure, and continuously learn from hundreds of thousands of contracts and legal documents with high accuracy and traceability. That requires a significant engineering layer on top of foundation models. Workflow orchestration, permissioning, audit trails, structured repositories, benchmarking across models, and domain specific tuning are not ‘nice to have’ features. They are essential.
There is also a strategic risk in relying on a single LLM. The pace of model improvement is extraordinary. What is state of the art today may be surpassed in months. Enterprises should not be locked into one provider or one model. They need a vendor that continuously evaluates, benchmarks, and deploys the best model for each specific task while maintaining stability, security, and compliance.
So we view innovations like Claude Cowork as positive momentum for the market. But turning raw AI capability into reliable, enterprise grade legal infrastructure requires much more than access to a powerful model.
Thanks Alex, and congrats on the new partnership.
