Harvey Hires Tara Waters

Been a lot of news today, but, as AL covered Tara Waters’ move from Ashurst in 2024 to become a freelance consultant, it’s only right that this site also covers her move to Harvey.

By coincidence, UK-based Tara had helped Ashurst to bring aboard Harvey and left not long after the global implementation of the platform. Now she joins the likes of Joe Cohen at the fast-growing legal tech company as a Legal Innovation Partner – i.e. folks with a law firm legal innovation background who can engage with Harvey’s customers in a very in-depth way.

The AL interview with Tara from Sept 2024.

She is joined by two other new hires: Farrah Pepper, previously with the Legal Data Intelligence group, and Joe Marando, previously with Fasken in Canada. (And the move also comes after today’s earlier news about the acquihires from Lume in the US – see AL today.)

Harvey said: ‘Drawing on deep experience across legal innovation and transformation, they will advise customers on practical AI strategy and governance while bringing market insight back to shape our product and direction.

‘Farrah brings decades of experience across in-house legal leadership and private practice. At Harvey, she will partner closely with in-house leaders as they navigate how AI is reshaping legal service delivery, business models, and operations. Her deep experience across corporate legal departments and law firms reflects Harvey’s commitment to working with practitioners who understand the practical, organizational, and strategic dimensions of AI transformation.

‘Tara is a globally recognized digital strategist with more than 25 years of experience across legal and technology. One of the few to have served as both a law firm partner and Chief Digital Officer, she has led large-scale AI and digital programs across complex, multi-office firms and advised senior leaders driving transformation across organizations of varying size and maturity. Her work reflects Harvey’s commitment to pairing strategic vision with operational execution as firms embed AI into their core business.

‘Joe will focus on AI transformation at law firms, bringing a rare combination of legal expertise and hands-on experience in knowledge management, legal project management, and innovation at some of Canada’s leading law firms. He will join Megan McMillin’s team, working directly with innovation teams to support AI enablement efforts, including data readiness audits, change management programs, and strategic economic assessments.’

Congrats to all of them.

Legal Innovators California, the landmark West Coast legal tech event, will take place on June 10 and 11, in the heart of the Bay Area, the home to many of the world’s leading AI businesses – and plenty of legal tech pioneers as well! More information and tickets here.
