UK Firm Rolls Out August Across Multiple Business Functions

Legal AI platform August is now being used by UK law firm Harrison Drury, not just for legal matters, but across multiple business functions.

The US-based August noted that the small-to-medium size Harrison Drury will use the company’s AI skills for ‘corporate transactions and commercial property, [and for] HR, marketing and business development, and financial operations,’ as well.

Staff across the firm, from fee earners to operational teams, will be ‘trained and certified through August Academy, a library of 100+ video tutorials on using AI effectively and responsibly’, they added.

The law firm, which has nine offices in the UK, said it had looked at several platforms before choosing August. Recently, Hughes Hubbard & Reed, an AmLaw 200 firm, also chose August as its main AI platform.

Simon England, Managing Partner at Harrison Drury, commented: ‘August will give us the ability to spend more of our time on the things our clients actually value: our knowledge, our relationships, and our attention to their specific needs. The technology handles a lot of the process; our people handle the judgment and the advice.’

Rutvik Rau, Co-Founder and CEO of August, added: ‘Harrison Drury [is] rethinking how the entire firm can benefit from the support our technology can offer to their expertise, from how lawyers deliver work to how the business functions around them. That’s exactly the kind of firm we built August for.’

Is this a big deal?

In terms of landing major clients, this UK firm is clearly not one of the largest in the market. But that may not be a key aspect here, as August intentionally is targeting small and medium scale law firms around the world, while working with larger ones where it can.

Moreover, while many legal AI platforms are used just for specific legal needs, in this case August is helping out with its AI skills across the whole business, which is an interesting strategy and increases the overall usage of the platform.
