Legora has launched what it’s calling aOS, an agentic operating system, which they say marks the ‘dawn of Agentic Law’. Sounds great. What is it?
They explained that it’s ‘a purpose-built agentic operating system that enables legal teams to execute complex work end-to-end, from matter intake through to client delivery’.
The ‘Legora Agent’ – which is the active bit in the aOS – ‘drives autonomous legal execution, handling research, drafting, and busy work continuously so lawyers can review it at scale and focus on the decisions that matter’.
In short, as with several other companies, they are going all in on agents.
Max Junestrand, CEO and Co-Founder of Legora, commented: ‘It’s something we’ve been building toward for three years.’
But, you may then say: ‘But, we already have agents, and workflows and related capabilities, what’s different about this?’
Legora noted that what makes this launch stand out is that its ‘aOS’ is a ‘single connected system that facilitates the flow of information, communication, and execution of legal work’.
Maybe think of it as a rail network that sits next to other transport systems, i.e. it’s got its own infrastructure all around it.
Or, as they added: ‘The Legora aOS … orchestrates agents to perform legal work autonomously and continuously – from first-mile matter intake, through research, drafting, and review, to last-mile client delivery.
‘At the heart of the aOS is the Legora Agent – the engine that powers it all. A party sends a contract redline at midnight. By the time the lawyer sits down the next morning, the Legora Agent has already reviewed every change, flagged the issues that need attention, and drafted a response ready to send.’
You get the picture.
So, more than just another workflow, but an entire system working within Legora to support agentic activity, such as the example noted above.
Is this a big deal?
Well, it all depends on whether lawyers actually use these agentic opportunities at scale.
If firms and inhouse teams just dabble with them and send the occasional agent to do the occasional small task, then the impact – despite all the work Legora and others have put into agents – will be minimal.
The challenge for many lawyers with agents is that they really have to trust them to do the work. That’s hard for lawyers in multiple ways.
However, if they do embrace agents, then the hope of a new Legal Agentic Dawn could happen………
Or as Junestrand concluded: ‘The ceiling of what’s possible has always been limited by human capacity. The Legora aOS changes that. It is the operating system that enables legal teams to operate with machine intelligence at a scale, speed, and quality that simply wasn’t possible before.’
