Clio For Word Add-In Launches in Beta

Recently, we’ve seen Claude for Word, as well as the Microsoft Legal Agent, and now Clio is launching an AI-driven Word add-in, which allows you to bring Vincent – its AI assistant – into your usual workspace to help you to ‘draft, review, and redline documents with legal AI, using native Track Changes and the full context of live documents’.

The major legal tech company, which is very much targeting the Big Law and enterprise worlds, said that with Clio for Word ‘lawyers can surface risks, inconsistencies, and structural issues conversationally, or draft from a blank page by describing the situation and iterating directly in Word’.

‘Every suggestion appears as a redline that can be accepted or rejected , following the same review process legal professionals already use with colleagues and opposing counsel,’ they added.

Dan Hoadley, Senior Director of Product Management at Clio, commented: ‘The measure of a good legal AI tool is whether it earns a place in the process lawyers already trust. Vincent inside Word is a meaningful step toward that. We launched in beta deliberately because the best way to build the right product is with our customers, in their documents, as they work.’

Is this a big deal?

Well, having this ability to work natively within Word now seems to be a benchmark that every major legal AI company needs.

As Clio stated: ‘Microsoft Word is where legal work product is created, negotiated, and finalized, and with the launch of Clio for Word, Vincent is now embedded directly in the tool lawyers already live in.’

Of course, this appears at a time of increasing competition for that coveted legal workspace – namely the world of Word.

The battle for lawyers’ attention when they open Word continues to grow more intense, and that battle is not made any easier with Anthropic – and Microsoft itself – offering legal AI tools that can function directly in this vital space as well.
