Precisely Confronts ‘Uncomfortable’ CLM Truth With Lexnus

Precisely has launched Lexnus, a new CLM platform ‘that takes a fundamentally different approach’ and focuses heavily on a company’s legal policies via playbook creation. This, they told AL, confronts the ‘uncomfortable premise’, which is that most CLM companies start in the ‘wrong place: the document’.

Oscar Klink, CTO at Precisely, commented: ‘AI can generate a contract in seconds, but it should not decide what legal risk a company is willing to accept. Lexnus separates those two things: use AI wherever it creates value, while your approved legal policy remains in control.’

The platform is hosted on EU-sovereign infrastructure. It also works with a range of LLMs, from Claude to Mistral.

The Swedish company explained: ‘Traditional CLM systems help organisations create, route, approve and store contracts. But the legal standards behind those contracts still need to be defined and translated into playbooks, often through lengthy implementation projects. Lexnus reverses that model.

‘Organisations upload contracts and templates they already use, and Lexnus analyses them to build an initial legal playbook based on the standards embedded in those documents. Legal [then] reviews, adjusts and approves the rules before they are published.

‘Once approved, the playbook becomes a policy layer against which contracts can be evaluated, whether they are created internally, received from a counterparty or drafted using AI.’

Lexnus is designed to produce its first results in under an hour, without a traditional implementation project or implementation fee, they said.

So, in short, they seek to ‘skip to the chase’, as it were. You don’t need to mess around sifting through contracts to figure out what should and should not be allowed, you can start with clearly defined policies for the company and then move from there….after you’ve run the playbook creation process via Lexnus, that is.

Is this a big deal?

Well, plenty of CLM companies and others have focused on the need to develop playbooks, some also using AI to do that. For AL, the key difference here is the explicit focus on policy. The way that they are presenting this as very light, affordable, and fast, plus the EU data sovereignty, also sets its message apart from some rivals.
