Harvey Launches Pro Bono Program

Harvey has launched a pro bono program in the UK, Australia, and the US, which seeks to address the reality that today many millions of people still cannot gain access to affordable legal help. They noted that in the US alone ‘1.4 million civil legal problems (71% of all cases) brought to legal services organizations cannot be addressed due to a lack of resources’.

A Harvey spokesperson told Artificial Lawyer: ‘The program will focus on building custom AI agents for high-volume casework, including housing support, veterans services, and social welfare claims, alongside shared resources and workflows.

‘Harvey is dedicating legal engineering support in the US and UK and will measure the program’s impact on outcomes and lawyers’ capacity to support clients.

‘Later this year, Harvey also plans to launch a pilot providing free access to a select group of frontline legal services organizations.’

And AL has got to say, if legal AI can help here – whichever company is getting involved – then that’s a societal good.

The fast-growing legal AI platform, which just raised $550m, added that in the first phase they will be collaborating with senior pro bono leaders at major law firms such as Ashurst Perkins Coie, DLA Piper, and Nelson Mullins.

Harvey’s Christopher Hook, Global Head of Responsible Business, concluded by saying that this pro bono project is one part of their wider Responsible Business Program, that started in February and has a focus on ‘ethics, integrity, inclusion, governance, and sustainability’.
