A great new two-day legal tech and innovation event, Future Lawyer Week USA, is taking place in New York on 20-21 November, featuring a hackathon, followed by an all-day conference.
Future Lawyer Week USA (FLW USA) is brought to you by Cosmonauts, who have been running the successful Future Lawyer series, and who most recently organised the Legal Innovators event last month in London for Artificial Lawyer.
‘This is an event specifically designed for in-house counsel and private practice law firms. The Future Lawyer series has successfully been running for three years in the UK and due to overwhelming demand, we have now decided to take our flagship event stateside!’ said Cosmonauts Managing Director, Timo Karakashev.
As you would expect, there will be plenty of great speakers, from Art Chang, Managing Director and Program Lead for Knowledge Management, JPMorgan Chase; to Lisa Margaret Smith, United States Magistrate Judge, US District Court; to a range of partners and innovation & KM experts from leading US law firms.
The overall event will be chaired by R. Patrick Huston, Brigadier General, U.S. Army, Assistant Judge Advocate.
Subjects explored will include how law firms can work with in-house legal teams to improve efficiency; how to approach procuring legal tech solutions; the critical role of Knowledge Management; and of course a session on legal AI technology chaired by Artificial Lawyer’s founder, Richard Tromans, and featuring Luminance’s new US President, Jason Brennan, among others.
However, before the conference kicks off on Wednesday at the Metropolitan Pavilion on 18th Street, there will be a hackathon on the Tuesday, which will see teams build a solution to solve a particular problem. Hackathon participants so far include:
- JP Morgan Chase
- Ballard Spahr LLP
- Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP
- Pepper Hamilton LLP
- Winston & Strawn LLP
- Ropes and Gray LLP
- Paul Hastings LLP
- Latham & Watkins LLP
- Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP
And finally, there will of course be plenty of legal tech companies there. Sponsors at present include, among others: Bryter, Ayfie, Neota Logic, LawGeex, ContractPodAi, iManage, Luminance, Tessian, and D2LT.
All in all this looks to be an engaging event with major US law firms and key figures from the client side of the American legal world taking part.
