LinkSquares, the NLP-powered CLM platform, has hired the General Counsel of a longstanding client to be its Chief Legal Officer. Tim Parilla joins from DraftKings, the fantasy sports company. Also, Bill Hewitt, CEO of Aternity, a digital experience management business, and former CEO of Exari (now part of Coupa), has joined the company’s board.

– What inspired you to leave a nice steady job to join a legal tech company?
The use of technology in the legal function is the wave of the future and products like the ones LinkSquares has deployed and continuing to develop are going to become table stakes for GC’s at the best-run organisations.
I’m excited to be a part of the growth and hopeful that I’ll be able to help bring the perspective of the customer (at least one of them) to the team.
– CLM is going through a growth surge now – why is that? What has changed in the market to make this happen?
As executives of high-performing companies lean on technology to maximise employee/business output, the legal function is finding itself exploring technological solutions to problems that, historically, were solved manually. As a result, there seems to be a heightened focus within the in-house community on legal operations, and CLM tools are a major part of that.
– Why LinkSquares?
Simple: The first-class LinkSquares team combined with the right strategic direction and the enormous impact the LinkSquares product suite has on changing the way that legal departments work is what drew me to the company.
– What is the path ahead? There is a lot of competition now in the CLM space, how will you break out and take market share?
At LinkSquares, we will continue to build and implement the best products and out-execute the market in growing the business. We will do this by being relentless advocates for the customer and expanding best-in-class AI technology.
Thanks Tim, and good luck with the new role!
