Meet GOLT – The New Global Legal Tech Directory

GOLT is a new legal tech directory with a global perspective, focused on ‘building trust between legal tech vendors and users’. One aspect that sets it apart from some others is the decision to really show the legal tech world beyond just the US and UK, with vendors listed from Brazil, India, Germany, Singapore, Australia and China, with other jurisdictions to follow. (It’s also free for vendors to get listed.)

And on the point about legal tech’s global nature, as GOLT’s developers noted: ‘North America holds a significant share of the global legal tech market, accounting for approximately 50% in 2022. That dominance will change as legal technology adoption becomes more broadly distributed around the world.’

The directory is also readable in both English and German, which further internationalises it. So, a clear nod towards a more multi-geographic approach to cataloguing legal technology. And that’s a good thing, given that once you spend time looking at nearly any country you will find a legal tech community there.

Sometimes these clusters are very small, with perhaps just one or two homegrown legal tech startups; in other cases it can be a rich environment, but which outside of its local legal community doesn’t get that much attention internationally. And in other parts of the world we can see product segment champions emerge and take market share globally, including in the US and UK.

For example, it’s estimated that there are 150 home-grown legal tech companies in Brazil. While several startups coming out of Scandinavian countries have gone international very rapidly. In short, there’s a lot going on outside of the Anglo-centric world.

GOLT has been built by Transforming Legal, a tech group with bases in Germany and the US. Its founder Tom Pfennig said: ‘We are thrilled to introduce GOLT. Our goal is to create an independent, global hub where legal technology vendors showcase their products and users can easily access, evaluate and purchase them.’

The portfolio of legal tech solutions, which appears to be at least 2,000 companies so far, are organized by category, capability, language, jurisdiction, API connectivity and vertical interoperability. ‘Vendors can update their product information free of charge to help keep the platform up-to-date’, Pfennig added.

He went on to say that GOLT would ‘provide insights and create trust between legal tech vendors and users by providing a dynamic platform for showcasing, accessing and rating legal technology solutions’.

The directory is still growing, but the goal is to provide something that can help with:

‘- Facilitating the legal tech procurement process by accelerating the selection process.

– Enabling organizations to make informed legal tech purchasing decisions.

– Offering product comparisons and software validation.

– Hosting a vast number of legal technology solutions from various geographical regions.

– Providing free-of-charge vendor listing and legal tech product data maintenance.’

Overall, and as noted, the aspect that this site really likes is its global nature. If legal tech is going to be all it can be, then it needs to have an impact in every market. In which case, if this directory can help to illuminate what’s going on around the world, then all the better.

You can find the database here.
