John Scrudato, who only joined Latham & Watkins in April last year from Gunderson, has now hopped ship to Cooley to join David Wang.
Wang, Head of Innovation at Cooley, himself is a recent joiner, having left Wilson Sonsini last year.
Other hires announced today include:
Joseph Sabelja – he was previously with JP Morgan Chase. He has been ‘leading rollout of the Generative AI platform, covering: evaluation, enablement and rollout of Large Language Models and also refining end-to-end productionization and integration with systems to accelerate AI across the firm’.
Felicity Levey – she has been Chair of Pro Bono group Paladin, after co-founding it. She has also worked as a consultant and adviser.
But, clearly the major news is the move of Scrudato, a well-known figure in the US legal tech sector and who held a top tech role at Latham, working very much in the AI field. He will now be the Director of Practice Engineering at Cooley. Previously his title was Director of AI and Innovation at Latham.
The hires, along with others over the last few months at Cooley, are all part of a mandate that Wang has been given by management to build a strong legal innovation team at the West Coast law firm.
AL is waiting for comment.

So excited to welcome our new joiners John Scrudato, Joseph Sabelja and Felicity Levey to our A Player team.
I want to thank everyone for the Innovation and Techbology teams for the hard work and marathon meetings last week in NY as we shift gears into execution to build the technological foundations for the great firm of the next generation here at Cooley LLP.
Time to get to work.’
