CILEX Launches AI Academy With 5Mins.ai

CILEX (The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) has partnered with online learning platform 5Mins.ai to launch the CILEX AI Academy, with a view to delivering personalised AI training to its members.

And before we go further, if you’re outside the UK you may well ask: what is a legal executive? They are ‘fully qualified legal professionals authorised to practise as specialist lawyers alongside solicitors’. And there are 7,000 practising legal executives in England & Wales.

Given that they may often do some of the more process-intensive work inside a law firm or corporate, then AI is naturally going to be increasingly important. So, kudos to CILEX for grasping the nettle here, even if some members must understandably wonder if AI will impact their jobs.

The organisation said that: ‘The CILEX AI Academy is designed to enable law firms and legal teams to equip staff with the skills they need for AI literacy, incorporating modules that evolve to keep pace with the rapidly changing AI landscape and that champion ethical and responsible use of AI.’

The online training platform ‘delivers bite-sized sessions on generative AI tools, prompt engineering, AI ethics, data security and professional responsibility’.

And aside from the practical necessities of learning about legal AI, it also helps them to manage ‘associated risks to ensure both the organisation and its clients are protected’. E.g. don’t upload all of your client’s documents into ChatGPT on your personal iPhone because your firm won’t pay for Harvey or Legora; and remember that if you’re looking for case law or other legal facts then make sure to find a linked citation that goes with it – and then check it’s real.

CILEX commercial director, Toby Moseley, commented: ‘No one doubts the significant impact AI is having on the legal sector but outside the UK’s largest firms, many risk getting left behind as they struggle to keep on top of new developments and the urgent need to upskill staff.

‘Traditional training options aren’t always able to keep up with the pace of change, so the new academy is designed to evolve to ensure that employees are trained on the most up-to-the-minute information.’

And Saurav Chopra, founder and CEO of 5Mins.ai, added: ‘Legal professionals need to master AI tools without compromising client confidentiality or professional standards. Our platform delivers this complex training through the same engagement mechanics that make social media addictive – but with content designed by legal AI experts. CILEX AI Academy means employers will be able to build genuinely AI-literate teams in weeks, not years, providing employees with cutting-edge skills and future-proofing their organisations without the need for lengthy build times or significant tech investment.’
