Welcome to another rip-roaring Law Punx blast. This week, Ross McNairn, CEO of Wordsmith, argues that legal tech companies cannot serve both law firms and inhouse customers at the same time. He believes there is a fundamental conflict. Powerful stuff.
To watch the blast, please press Play, or you can go to the AL TV Channel also. Enjoy. It’s short and punchy.

A Note on Open Debate
Open debate is the cornerstone of any healthy society. Having views that conflict with others’ views is all part of democratically, and one could argue scientifically, moving forward.
AL has long believed in the classical maxim of ‘thesis, antithesis, synthesis’. I.e. you state X is the way, I say, no, it’s Y, we test out those ideas and find that in reality a little of X and a little of Y are both true, even if initially they seemed 100% at loggerheads, and so we reach a new, more elevated understanding. That’s how we evolve.
So, Wordsmith is clearly focused on inhouse and doesn’t work with law firms. There are plenty of companies that serve both. And some that only do law firms. No doubt those who serve both will disagree with Ross’s thesis. Even so, ideas we disagree with can still provide stimulating internal discussions that bear fruit.
Also, Law Punx Recordings
AL has decided to focus these on the main site here and also on the AL TV Channel, rather than spread them across Spotify etc.
Also, if you’ve recorded a Law Punx episode and AL has not published it yet, then it won’t be coming out. This is because although some really smart folks have shared their thoughts; after listening back, AL concluded that those episodes were just not ‘punky enough’, not rip-roaring enough, not a baseball bat right between the eyes enough. So, I will be reaching out again to see if you’d like to do a new more forthright and challenging blast.
Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy this Law Punx blast.
