Product Walk Through: August – Genius Mode

This week’s AL TV Product Walk Through is with legal AI platform, August, and looks at its new Genius Mode. The capability gives law firms ‘the confidence to price on fixed fees and actually deliver on them’. This is because Genius Mode calculates flat fees based on billable hours.

In terms of the background to this new capability, August explained: ‘Most legal AI has been solving the wrong problem. The market optimized for writing faster, but the firms actually gaining ground are asking something different: can AI change the economics of legal delivery? Can it give firms the confidence to price on fixed fees and actually deliver on them?

‘The demo puts that to the test. After uploading invoices, accounting documents, and prior client bills, Genius Mode calculates flat fees based on billable hours. It built a branded presentation from the firm’s own materials, then generated a spreadsheet equipping the lawyer with the client insights needed to draft a confident, informed client-facing email.’

They underlined that August doesn’t just help with legal work, it supports multiple key functions inside a law firm, from finance to general operational needs. For example: ‘Hughes Hubbard & Reed, an AmLaw 150 firm, selected August after a four-month firm-wide evaluation, deploying not just across the legal practice, but into finance, billing, marketing, and operations. Their CIO Neeraj Rajpal, commented: ‘August mirrors how our attorneys work while also delivering real value to our finance, marketing and operations teams. That made this a firmwide decision, not just a legal one.’’
