Harvey Hires Former Notion CMO Rachel Hepworth

AL doesn’t usually cover marketing roles, but this one is definitely noteworthy. Harvey has hired Rachel Hepworth as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). She was previously CMO at Notion and was a marketing leader at Slack. Most recently she was also an advisor to Lovable.

Harvey said she has helped companies to ‘communicate their value at scale’ – and Harvey is certainly scaling, and doing so globally.

California-based Hepworth commented: ‘I’ve spent my career at companies reshaping how work gets done, and the stakes in law could not be higher. Trust, precision, and craft are critical. Harvey is the leader driving this change and I’m excited to be a part of building what comes next.’

One thing that is clear at the moment amid the ongoing platform war, and the realisation that Anthropic doesn’t just want to sell its LLMs to legal tech companies – but wants law firms to use them directly for legal work, is that there has never been so much to play for. The market for legal AI is opening up worldwide, but there is also a fierce competition taking place.

Plus, we have seen both Harvey and its main rival go into overdrive in terms of expanding their own marketing efforts, moving into areas such as celebrity endorsements – something that is really a whole new world for legal tech. That said, some wonder if such moves have a sustained value, even if they do attract short-term interest outside the legal innovation ecosystem of legal tech buyers.

Overall then, the legal AI market is changing rapidly and someone with experience at working with companies such as Notion, Lovable and others, will be very useful.

For what it’s worth, Artificial Lawyer would say – especially given recent research this site has done into the evolving sector – that the major legal AI platforms’ key markets remain large inhouse legal teams and large law firms – and perhaps they always will be. Those involved in legal innovation in these segments are a relatively tight, albeit global community and perhaps want more than anything else to really understand how platforms such as Harvey will help the people they work for: the lawyers.

Congrats to Rachel on the move!
