NewMod Manifest OS has announced a $60m Series A funding round at a $750m valuation, with Menlo Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and First Round Capital, taking part. In short – that’s a big vote of confidence in the NewMod approach from some major VC names.
Sounds great. And, as AL predicted at the end of last year: NewMods are going large in 2026! Ever get the feeling that NewMods are just going to grow and grow? (Note: three different groups of people have come to AL’s founder in recent weeks to ask about how best to form a NewMod / AI-first law firm….so, that’s just one yardstick.)

So what is happening?
They explained:
- ‘Manifest OS incubated its first law firm in the business immigration market under the “Manifest Law” brand as part of the Arizona ABS program.
- Manifest OS powers these next-generation law firms through three components.
- Brand – All firms operate under the unified Manifest Law brand, creating a consistent standard for transparent pricing, service quality, and client experience. That brand signals high-caliber, outcomes-based legal work with centralized quality control.
- Software – Manifest OS provides an AI-native platform that acts as a single end-to-end solution for client communications, attorney and client collaboration, legal research, document drafting, billing and reporting. Human-supervised AI agents are embedded directly into legal workflows, eliminating non-legal administrative work and standardizing quality. That frees lawyers to focus on delivering a high-touch, human experience and strategic counsel that technology cannot replace.
- Centralized Back Office – Manifest OS provides centralized operational infrastructure that allows for Manifest-branded firms to achieve the scale of a large law firm. Manifest OS recruits paralegals, admins and legal writers, and trains them to become AI-proficient while handling client intake, business development, quality assurance, billing and collections, all under attorney supervision. Lawyers at Manifest OS-powered law firms focus on legal work and client advocacy, while Manifest OS provides the back-office engine to power the practice.’
I.e. this seems to be saying that they could branch out into other areas of the law. This is because Manifest OS is basically ‘the wrapper’, or maybe ‘the core’ – and from there they can go in many directions.
David Schellhase, Salesforce, Groupon, and Slack’s former General Counsel and a Manifest investor, said: ‘I’ve spent my career as a general counsel for some of the largest tech companies in the world and seen firsthand how the billable hour model creates friction on both sides of the table.
‘Companies want fee transparency, predictability, and speed. Lawyers want to focus on delivering results, not justifying billable hours. Manifest OS’s model and use of advanced technology align those interests in a way the traditional system simply doesn’t.’
And CEO Dan Mishin – who is not a lawyer and is understood not to know any secret legal handshakes – commented: ‘To truly shift the market to outcomes-based pricing and to democratize access to high-quality legal services for clients, we needed to rethink the entire business model of a law firm from the ground up.
‘We made the hard choice to not sell our AI software to existing law firms who are often beholden to billing customers more hours as a means to better compensation. Instead, we partner with forward-thinking lawyers to help them become market leaders in their respective practice areas, with AI at their core from day zero.’
And they are 100% against the use of the billable hour. Ahhh……what is that sweet music wafting into AL HQ…???
In short: What’s not to like?
Of course, if they’re going to rock the legal world, they’ll need to move into many more higher value areas beyond immigration law. But, let’s see what happens!
Congrats to Dan.
