Europe’s ‘sovereign legal AI’ platform, Noxtua – which CMS and Dentons have invested in – and the legal research startup Midpage, are partnering to combine European and US case law, statutes, and regulations. The move comes as LexisNexis is to acquire Doctrine in France, and Legora has bought Swedish legal research company Qura.
In short, curated legal data is hot! Especially in a world where moats are breaking down.
They said that Midpage covers with its daily updated research platform, ‘all binding US federal and state opinions’. While Noxtua has formed exclusive partnerships with leading European legal publishing houses. So, US and EU.
This integration makes ‘Noxtua the first and only legal AI to combine US legal content with sovereign European cloud hosting’, they said.
‘Legal professionals in Europe benefit from an extensive dataset on US case law, statutes, and regulations supplied by Midpage while also being protected from the US CLOUD Act, as all the data provided by clients is processed on Noxtua’s independent European AI infrastructure,’ they added.
And if you wondered if sovereign AI was a big deal, well, at least in parts of Europe it matters, especially Germany. Although, it’s not clear if most lawyers in the EU really do mind where their AI comes from.
