LegalZoom Co-Founder Brian Lee Joins Steno Board 

AL doesn’t often do board roles, but this is a biggy, so…..Steno, the court reporting and AI-driven litigation support pioneer, has appointed Brian Lee to its Board of Directors. Lee co-founded LegalZoom in 2000 – which was then seen as a ground-breaking venture for this sector, as it provided consumers and small businesses with affordable online legal help.

After leaving his full-time role at LegalZoom, Lee went on to become a serial entrepreneur, taking on senior positions at, and/or co-founding, several other companies that included: ShoeDazzle, The Honest Company, BAM Ventures, Art of Sport, and Arena Club – sometimes with celebrity involvement, such as with Kobe Bryant.

Steno noted that Lee ‘guided LegalZoom through immense early growth, expanding revenue beyond $300 million and laying the foundation for its eventual public offering (NASDAQ: LZ) at a $7 billion market capitalization’. 

Now, Lee – who long ago worked as a lawyer at Skadden – has come back to the legal world. The move also follows Steno’s $49 million Series C funding round earlier this year.

Lee commented: ‘In litigation support, software alone cannot replace the reliability, high-touch execution, and trust that attorneys need when bringing a case to trial. Steno stands out because it prioritizes the client experience, treating service as a core strength rather than an afterthought.
