Right, onto some news. We start with Clio, which just held its massive ClioCon event in Boston, and announced a new visual branding along with a host of new tools and features, many of which will be of interest to larger law firms and inhouse teams.

AL will do a deeper dive into ClioCon and especially Malcolm Gladwell’s talk about why institutional change doesn’t happen sometimes, next week. But suffice it to say, you know you’ve succeeded as a company when you can fill a convention centre with customers and there are so many people that you need an extra level just to accommodate everyone at the keynote – as seen in the pics here for CEO, Jack Newton’s appearance.

Looks like ClioCon is going to need a bigger venue!

As part of the announcements, Clio said they had bought Page, an AI platform that monitors legislative and regulatory activity across the US. They’ve also created a centralized approach to using what Clio offers, so that everything is available in ‘one pane of glass’ – and that’s inspired the new logo and design. And as you know, centralization is a key theme that AL has been focused on recently, i.e. the ability to provide a place where lawyers can ‘live’ without having to keep changing context.

In fact, there are so many new features, AL is not going to cover them all here – you can find a really useful overview of them by Clio itself on a specially dedicated page they’ve built – see here.

For AL and its audience, the key takeaway is that after the vLex deal and the strategic decision to press on into Big Law, Clio is now offering a very broad, multi-skill, agentic platform that has all the capabilities you’d find in any peer platform, plus a huge legal data library (via vLex and Fastcase), plus all the ‘business of law’ capabilities they first became famous for.

From what AL saw at the show – and during the special Big Law track that this site’s founder chaired – Clio has built a multifaceted offering designed to go head to head with any other major legal AI platform out there. Proof will be in the pudding, as they say, but on first appearances what Clio is pitching to Big Law has just as much chance of meeting major firm needs as any other platform in this segment of the market.

And now some other news in summarised style:

  • Legal AI company Eve has said that it surpassed handling 350,000 plaintiff cases, up 75% since June. Also, a new San Francisco office will house a team that has grown nearly 40% since June. To keep up with demand from nearly 2,000 firms, Eve plans to double its Bay Area headcount by next spring, they added. Just shows, plaintiff firms really see the value in AI.
  • Lexis+ with Protégé is expanding its offering by bringing more of ‘LexisNexis’s trusted legal data, a customer’s own knowledge, and advanced AI’ together through one simple prompt box.  ‘That combination helps lawyers move from a question into useful legal work, with relevant context, connected capabilities, and verification along the way,’ they said.
  • Jus Mundi has started a private beta for new arbitrator search capabilities in Jus AI, its agentic AI platform. They are expanding Jus AI beyond legal research, analysis and drafting to ‘support another crucial part of arbitration proceedings: identifying and assessing potential arbitrator candidates’, they said. The new capabilities are designed to help practitioners move from the facts, issues and strategy of a case to an evidence-supported shortlist, followed by deeper due diligence, including conflict checks, on individual candidates, they added.
  • Emma Legal and Datasite have announced a strategic partnership, bringing live transaction data and AI-powered legal due diligence together. The partnership enables M&A deal teams to work directly with Datasite data rooms in Emma Legal, they said.
  • Conga has partnered with GC AI, whereby the legal AI platform for inhouse teams is integrated directly into Conga’s contract lifecycle management solution, ‘complementing the AI capabilities Conga recently introduced and giving legal teams a faster, more connected way to manage contracts end to end’, they added.

And now the Harvey Webinar on agents:

Join us on Monday – November 2 at 11 am ET, 4pm GMT, for a great new webinar with Harvey in association with Artificial Lawyer, where we will explore: ‘Agents in Legal: A Practical Guide to Choosing, Building, and Rolling Them Out’.

Get a practical, no-hype look at what legal AI agents really are and how to roll them out. In 45 minutes, Harvey’s Ryan Samii, Artificial Lawyer’s Richard Tromans, and two law firm leaders, Tania Djerrahian and Andrei Salajan, who’ve rolled out agents themselves will cover agent use cases, where human review fits in, and winning over skeptics.
