Scissero, an AI-enabled law firm, has told Artificial Lawyer they are seeking to bring aboard talent and assets from Weil Gotshal as the New York firm heads to dissolution. It joins Crosby, among others – see following story, all bidding to acquire people and IP from Weil following the leading firm’s decision to close.
The move also follows Scissero’s acquisition of Robin AI’s managed services business in December 2025.
Mathias Strasser, Founder and CEO of Scissero, told this site: ‘It is sad to see a venerable institution like Weil, Gotshal & Manges facing such difficulties. Weil has a remarkable history, outstanding lawyers and a well-deserved reputation for innovation. We believe the legal industry is entering a period of profound transformation, and that AI-native law firms have an opportunity to fundamentally rethink how legal services are delivered.
‘Following our successful acquisition and turnaround of Robin AI’s managed services business in December 2025, we remain committed to building a category leader in AI-enabled legal services. We see tremendous opportunities to bring together exceptional legal talent, proprietary technology and new AI-driven business models. Our interest in Weil reflects that ambition.’

Artificial Lawyer asked Strasser several additional questions about the move, see the interview below:
Have you submitted a bid for Weil’s assets?
We have formally submitted an expression of interest in acquiring certain technology, intellectual property and data assets from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, including DealVision 360. We have the financial resources and operational capabilities to move quickly and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the next steps with Weil’s advisers.
Are you also interested in Weil’s lawyers?
Yes. Weil has long been recognised as one of the world’s leading transactional law firms, with an exceptional reputation in private equity and M&A. As one of the leading AI-native law firms, we would welcome the opportunity to build a substantial transactional practice around lawyers of this calibre joining Scissero. We are already in discussions with several Weil lawyers and, in parallel, have been speaking with a handful of private equity firms interested in backing the creation of such a practice. Any decision to join Scissero would, of course, rest with the individual lawyers.
What technology and data are you looking to acquire in particular?
Our interest extends to Weil’s DealVision 360 platform, as well as its broader proprietary technology, knowledge management systems and transactional data assets. Weil has also been at the forefront of legal technology innovation, and DealVision 360 is a particularly impressive example of what the firm has developed.
At Scissero, we have built an extensive proprietary database of contractual clauses, market practice, negotiation playbooks and strategies, drawing on more than a decade of experience negotiating contracts for some of the world’s leading private equity firms. Combining this foundation with Weil’s technology and data assets could significantly accelerate the development of our autonomous drafting and negotiation capabilities.
Can you actually use Weil’s client data?
As a law firm operating in both the United Kingdom and New York, we are acutely aware of our obligations regarding client confidentiality and legal privilege. There is, however, an important distinction between proprietary know-how, aggregated market-practice information and client-confidential documents.
Each category would need to be assessed separately, with appropriate safeguards and any necessary client consents. Our interest is in making lawful use of Weil’s accumulated knowledge and data, not obtaining unrestricted access to confidential client information. We would welcome a discussion with Weil’s advisers about what assets and rights could appropriately be transferred and how they could be used.
